European Touring Car Cup with Michal Matějovský

Michal Matějovský, with the Alfa Romeo 156 S 2000, will take part in the FIA WTCC racing event at Adria, Italy - 19. 10. 2007, Hradec Králové -

The last weekend of October is the culmination of this year's season for Michal Matějovský, racing driver of the 02 Motorsport ČSMS team based in Hradec Králové. With his Alfa Romeo 156 S 2000 car, Michal Matějovský will take part in the races of the third year of the European Touring Car Cup at the Adria circuit near Venice, in the face of competition of thirty drivers. 'This is the only Alfa Romeo car of the starting grid. We have prepared a specific design of the vehicle for this race, with the Czech tricolour on the blue background,' revealed the team's general manager, Stanislav Matějovský, and mentioned an interesting fact: 'Michal, the only Czech driver taking part in the race, will have number 21, which exactly corresponds to his age.'

This is the third year of the FIA European Touring Car Cup series. This series' first event was held two years ago, at Vallelunga, Italy, and the second event took place last year, at Estoril, Portugal. The European Cup has fully adopted the system of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, that is, from the practice sessions up to the two final races. 'We can say that this series is kind of a parallel to the WTCC, though not so high ranking as the WTCC. The races are governed by the same regulations and the same specification applies to the cars,' said Stanislav Matějovský. And, what objectives will be pursued by his team in Italy? 'In particular, we want to gather experience and to achieve the best possible result in the face of great competition,' said the former European Truck Racing Cup Champion.

For Michal Matějovský, this is going to be a debut race not only with respect to the European Touring Car Cup, but also with respect to the Adria Circuit. 'I must make use of the opportunities offered within the free and timed practice sessions to acquaint myself with the track as quickly as possible,' explained the 21-year-old driver. The O2 Motorsport ČSMS team will set off for Italy on Wednesday, 24 October, immediately after the team's "Czechoslovak Motorsport" day held at the Autodrom Most Circuit.

Motor-sport fans will be able to watch both races on Eurosport. The first race will be broadcast on Eurosport International (12.30 - 13.15), the second one, on Eurosport 2 (15.15 - 16.00). The most interesting moments of the two races will be on program on Sunday evening, namely, on Eurosport International (19.00 - 19.45), and on Eurosport 2 (23.15 - 00.15).
