Last weekend, at the opening event of this year of the Česká pojišťovna - Škoda Octavia Cup held at the Autodrom Most Circuit, Michal Matějovský, as he had promised, started his move towards pursuing the overall victory. After completing the qualifying session in a fine manner, he won the Saturday superpole race to take the pole position for the first race. And, on Sunday morning, he triumphed in this race, having kept the lead from start to finish. According to the regulations, he started the second race from the sixth spot of the grid. Shortly after the start, he was the first driver to escape from the after-start congestion and, as early as at the Careca Chicane, he was in the lead. Owing to his perfect driving style, he managed to hold off his rivals throughout the entire 17-lap race and took his second victory.
Unfortunately, at a latter stage, Michal Matějovský was disqualified from the second race because the mechanic, by mistake, when he was assembling the rear axle, sealed up, with a silicone sealant of negligible consistency, the joint in the rubber guide bearing of the rear axle; this was assumed to have constituted a breach of the regulations (that is, two gaps, each of a size of about 3 mm, are not visible). However, this oversight, naturally, did not have any impact on the car's driving properties. At the end of the weekend racing event, Michal Matějovský said: 'The first race was fine. In the second one, from the sixth spot of the grid, I managed to edge my way past the cars involved in the collision to take the lead. Then I kept the first position up to the finish. I am sorry about the disqualification ordered by the technical supervisors afterwards, but I abide by their decision.'
Also involved in the races was another driver of the O2 Motorsport team, Ctirad Hájek. He began the racing event in a fine way but, through no fault of his own, his car was hit in a collision in one of the early laps of the first race and suffered the right-hand rear wheel puncture; consequently, Ctirad Hájek had to head for the pits. Throughout the rest of this race and, in particular, in the second race on Sunday, he attracted the attention of the audience by fighting several battles with his daughter Laura, who was at the wheel of another of the team's Octavia cars. In the end, Ctirad Hájek finished 18th and 11th in the first and second races respectively. Laura Hájková, making her Octavia Cup debut, came 14th in the first race; in the second one, she even claimed the fine tenth place. Marek Ďurovkin, of the CSMS team, who made his debut too, finished 16th and 13th in the first and second races respectively.
