Matėjovský had to retreat from a top position due to a brake failure
Race 2 of the third round of this year of the SEAT Leon Eurocup series at the Porto circuit in Portugal started on Sunday afternoon, under the cloudy sky, with rain imminent. After making an excellent start, the SUNRED-BRT team's driver Michal Matėjovský fought his way ahead, to the third position. After several laps of the eleven-lap race, however, the brakes of Michal's car started failing and, in the middle of the race, just before a section with tight turns, the brake pedal dropped to the floor, causing the car to hit the safety barrier built of tyres. Such was the force of the impact that Michal had to shift to reverse gear to get the car out. In the process, several drivers got ahead of him.
His car damaged, Michal was trying hard to chase his rivals. However, he had to slow down gradually and dropped down to the 13th place at the finish line. 'After the brake failure, I was trying to keep the maximum possible speed, but when the car went straight through the next chicane, I had to slow down considerably in order to get to the finish,' the disappointed driver said after the race. After the racing event in Portugal, Michal Matėjovský is fourth in the overall standings, with 24 points.
